Anxiety Antidote

I’ve been deep in those anxious feelings lately. The kind so intense that your muscles feel sore from the tension you’ve been holding in your body. Tight chest, shoulders up to your ears, stomach in knots. Anyone else?

The thing with anxiety is that it’s hard to control because most of the time you don’t even know what the root cause is. My husband will ask “what’s causing it?” or “how can I help” and my typical answer is I don’t know! But here’s what I do know...these are the lowest of the low vibration emotions and they aren’t serving me in any way.

When I feel the anxiety creeping in there are a few things I try to focus on. Knowing how many of you are struggling out there, I figured if they help me, there’s a good chance they can help you too. So here goes:

Breathe

It sounds so simple right? But how often do you get to the end of a day and realize you never even noticed yourself taking a deep breath? So right now, put down your phone, close your eyes, and take 3 of the deepest, slowest breaths you possibly can.

Pro tip: Add a drop of doTERRA Easy Air blend to your palms, cup close to your face + breathe in!

Gratitude

Often when I’m anxious it’s because I’m caught up thinking about things out of my control, or things that haven’t even happened yet! By taking a few minutes daily to speak or write 5 things you’re grateful for, you can quickly bring yourself back to reality. You’ll find it’s virtually impossible to feel anxious about what you’re grateful for.

Self Care

This is non negotiable. If you’re running on empty you can’t possibly expect your body + mind to perform at full capacity. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. Take a bath, read a book, paint your nails, catch up with a friend, drink a warm coffee/tea. Whatever brings you joy + makes you feel fabulous!

Movement

You will never ever regret getting your body up + moving. If you want to release those feel good chemicals into your body you best be heading out for a walk, practicing yoga, streaming a workout, shaking your booty, or whatever type of fitness you like to partake in. Extra bonus points for getting this done outside where you can soak up some vitamin D, what we like to call #sunshinesuperpower !

Nourishment

Fuel your body with nutrient dense foods + stay hydrated. Although stress eating might feel good in the moment, it never feels good afterwards. It will definitely help if you’re planning your meals ahead and making sure to have healthy options at your fingertips.

Laughter

It truly is the best medicine isn’t it? Call your funny friend, put on a sitcom (Schitt’s Creek does it for me every time!), try learning a tiktok dance, or figure out what makes you belly laugh and make it happen.

Oils

These are my saving grace. I am diffusing, applying, ingesting oils from the time I wake up until I hit the sack. Balance on my feet before I even get out of bed in the morning, Adaptiv in my diffuser that’s always close by, and Copaiba under my tongue whenever I need a little hit. If you need some of this in your life I’m here to guide you through getting started whenever the time is right.

Anxiety is never fun but it’s definitely a sign from our bodies to slow down, notice, process, and release. I hope these practical tips are helpful for you. Be sure to let me know if you have other tried and true coping strategies!
