Celebrating Solstice
❄️☀️Happy winter solstice!☀️❄️
It’s time to celebrate the shortest day of what has felt like an extremely long + dark year! The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and shortest day of the year, as well as the official beginning of winter. It can also be seen as the rebirth of the sun because from here on the days start to grow longer. Today’s celebrations represent a spark of light in the darkness, and can also be a great opportunity for rest, reflect + welcoming new life.
We’ve never really recognized this day as a family before, but this year has seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce some new, meaningful traditions. Here are a few ways we’ll be celebrating:
📺Watch
Little Bear - Winter Solstice. The boys have watched this series since they were babies! It’s so calming + thought provoking, and each episode is only 15min. This one will teach them the meaning behind the winter solstice.
📚Read
There are a lot of great options for books but these are 2 we added to our collection and really love.

✏️Crafts
Hop onto Pinterest and you’ll fine so many simple winter crafts to get your kids excited about celebrating the day. We’ll be making animal feeders to hang outside in the trees to offer to animals that live around us. We’re using pine cones, peanut butter and birdseed.
💫Intention setting
This is the perfect day to reflect on the past year + get clear on your intentions for the coming year. Notice I didn’t say goal setting! Take some time to practice gratitude, tune into your energy, get focused in your faith (in yourself, and/or with your creator).
🌟 Stargazing
This winter solstice is very unique because we have the chance to view the great conjunction of Saturn + Jupiter, or what some are referring to as the “Christmas star”. The two planets will appear close enough to shine as one bright point in the sky, something that hasn’t happened in over 400 years! They’re expected to be brightest an hour after sunset, so we’ll be outside with our fingers crossed that it’s a clear night!
💧Oils
Once you decide how you want to feel today and going into the next year, choose the appropriate oils to support you. Grounding, spiritually connecting, anchoring oils are great choices!
🍗Feast
Sit around your table, eat nourishing food, and have deep conversations (a great time to share your intentions)! We’ll be lighting some candles + decorating the table to create a winter alter.
Do you celebrate this day? I’d love to hear some of your traditions if you do!
